Hi, I’m Sarah!
I’ve always been obsessed with dogs!
My first word was “doggy,” and as a child I would check out the entire dog section of the library at once, studying and memorizing every breed. That early fascination evolved into a lifelong devotion - one that now informs how I see, connect with, and photograph each dog.
Originally from Lincoln, Nebraska, I moved to San Francisco in 2005 to pursue a degree in Photography at the Academy of Art University. While attending school, I worked part-time at a doggy daycare, where I began photographing the dogs to fulfill class assignments.
When I started photographing dogs, something just “clicked” and I found my creative niche.
In 2012, I started my dog walking and pet sitting business - Running with the Pack. With my experience working in the dog care field, I really got a sense of dog behavior and how to handle multiple dog breeds and personalities.
Working with dogs so closely over the years has given me an intuitive sense of how to get them to pose and feel comfortable in front of the camera.
When I’m not photographing or caring for dogs, you’ll find me spending time with family, friends, my husband Tony and our two Taiwan Mountain Dogs - Wiley & Simone.
Artist Statement:
My work is driven by an obsession with color, texture, and depth. Through refined lighting and intentional palettes, I create dog portraits with a painterly quality. Often, viewers ask if my images are paintings, and I take that as the highest compliment!
Each dog I photograph is a unique soul. My approach begins with connection, allowing their individuality to surface naturally. By focusing on what makes each dog unmistakably themselves, I create timeless fine art portraits that go beyond photography and are meant to be lived with as art.
